Grand Junction, CO – After a stretch of warm fall days, western Colorado is bracing for a sharp cooldown and mountain snow beginning tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction. The incoming storm system, moving in from the southwest, will deliver widespread valley rain and 4–6 inches of snow across the central mountains through Friday morning.
Forecasters say highs Wednesday will run 5–10 degrees above normal, with readings in the upper 60s to low 70s across the valleys before clouds increase through the evening. As the front moves in, temperatures will drop to near-normal levels by Thursday and Friday, bringing a winter-like feel to the high country.
The central and western mountain ranges, including areas near Aspen, Vail, and Telluride, are expected to see the heaviest snowfall, while lower elevations such as Grand Junction will mainly receive rain. Other mountain zones could see 1–3 inches of snow, with locally higher totals possible in the highest peaks.
Conditions will clear Friday afternoon into Saturday before another storm system targets the Western Slope late Sunday into early next week.
