Grand Junction, CO – An urgent Freeze Warning remains in effect for much of western Colorado and eastern Utah until 9 a.m. MDT Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.

The advisory, issued at 11:13 p.m. MDT on Thursday, October 16, 2025, affects multiple river basins including the Yampa, Colorado, Dolores, Animas, and San Juan, as well as the Eastern Uinta Basin in Utah.

According to forecasters, temperatures could fall as low as 26°F overnight, bringing widespread frost and a potential end to the growing season across the Western Slope. Areas such as Craig, Meeker, Rifle, Glenwood Springs, Durango, and Vernal are all within the warning zone.

The freeze conditions could kill unprotected crops and sensitive vegetation while also damaging outdoor plumbing if not properly insulated. Officials urge residents to cover plants, bring in potted vegetation, and disconnect garden hoses before temperatures drop further overnight.

Conditions are expected to improve after sunrise, with gradual warming into the weekend.
