Grand Junction, CO – The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a Freeze Watch for much of western Colorado and eastern Utah, warning that temperatures could drop as low as 19°F late Monday night into Tuesday morning, October 28.
The advisory includes the Animas River Basin, Four Corners/Upper Dolores River region, Central Gunnison and Uncompahgre River Basin, and the Debeque to Silt Corridor in Colorado. In Utah, it covers the Eastern Uinta Basin, including Vernal, Jensen, and Fort Duchesne.
Forecasters say widespread sub-freezing temperatures could kill crops, harm sensitive vegetation, and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are advised to drain hoses, wrap exposed pipes, and cover or bring in plants before temperatures drop Monday night.
According to the NWS, this could be one of the coldest nights of the fall season so far, marking an end to the growing season for many areas on the Western Slope and across eastern Utah.
Calm winds and clear skies are expected to allow rapid cooling after sunset, with frost likely even in lower valleys.
