Buffalo, NY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Wind Advisory for much of western and central New York, with gusts up to 50 mph expected from 11 a.m. Friday to 5 a.m. EDT Saturday.
The advisory includes Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Wayne, Oswego, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, Ontario, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany Counties—covering key metro areas such as Buffalo, Rochester, and Jamestown.
Forecasters say west to northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph will strengthen Friday afternoon, with the highest gusts likely along the Lake Erie and Lake Ontario shorelines, as well as across higher terrain in the Southern Tier.
The NWS warns that tree limbs may be blown down, and isolated power outages could occur. Residents should secure outdoor items, including Halloween decorations, and exercise caution when driving, particularly high-profile vehicles.
Wind speeds are expected to gradually diminish early Saturday morning as the storm system shifts eastward, though cooler air will follow for the weekend.
