Buffalo, NY – An extended period of above-normal temperatures is expected across western and central New York, beginning today and lasting through next week.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo, high pressure will drift east from the Great Lakes to New England over the weekend, bringing dry weather and a warming trend. Today’s highs will reach the low to mid-80s, with the upper 70s in higher elevations. Light lake breezes might keep areas along Lake Ontario slightly cooler.
Overnight, clear skies and calm conditions will persist, with temperatures dropping to the upper 50s to low 60s. Patchy valley fog is possible in the western Southern Tier. Sunday will see highs in the mid to upper 80s, with increased humidity as dewpoints rise into the low 60s.
Dry weather will continue into Monday, with highs near 90 degrees in lower elevations. However, a trough approaching from the west could bring showers and thunderstorms by Monday night, particularly in the western Southern Tier.
Looking ahead, very warm and humid conditions are forecast through next week, with temperatures remaining above normal and dewpoints in the mid-60s to mid-70s. The heat index may reach the lower 90s by Friday. Showers and thunderstorms are possible each day, with potential for heavy rainfall due to high atmospheric moisture levels.
