Charlotte, NC – Rain and areas of fog are creating a slow start across the Charlotte metro and western Carolinas today, with wet roads and reduced visibility likely through late morning before conditions gradually improve.
According to the National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg, steady rain will continue through mid to late morning, with patchy fog developing after 11 a.m. Rainfall totals between a quarter and half an inch are possible, enough to cause ponding on roadways during the morning commute. Visibility may briefly drop in heavier rain and fog, especially along I-77, I-85, and secondary roads in low-lying areas.
Winds remain relatively light today but turn breezier overnight, with gusts up to 25 to 30 mph possible as rain tapers off. Skies clear quickly on Friday, bringing sunshine and a drier air mass. Highs Friday climb into the mid-50s, followed by a quiet and mild weekend with abundant sun Saturday and Sunday.
Looking ahead, the calm pattern holds into next week. Christmas Eve on Wednesday is currently trending mostly sunny and mild, with highs reaching the mid-60s across the Charlotte area and Upstate South Carolina, favorable for holiday travel and outdoor plans.
Rain ends today with no hazardous weather expected beyond this morning, though drivers should remain cautious in fog-prone areas until conditions improve.
