A clear, cool dawn spreads over the foothills this morning, the kind that feels calm now but carries change in the air. Upstate South Carolina and parts of western North Carolina are set for a quick temperature turnaround — from springlike warmth this weekend to potential freezing conditions by early next week.

The National Weather Service in Greenville–Spartanburg reports no hazardous weather for today, but by late Sunday, a strong push of cold air begins its march south. Highs Saturday will reach near 75°F under mostly sunny skies — a perfect setup for leaf cleanup or local football playoffs. Sunday brings slightly cooler air with spotty showers or a stray thunderstorm, especially along I-85 between Gaffney and Anderson.

The shift begins late Sunday as dry northwest winds pull in colder air. By Monday, highs only manage the mid-40s, and clear skies by nightfall could send temperatures tumbling into the mid-20s. NWS forecasters warn that this could trigger a hard freeze across much of the Upstate and foothills, effectively ending the growing season.

Residents should protect pipes, pets, and tender plants ahead of the cold snap. Those with travel or Veterans Day events planned should expect brisk, dry air through Tuesday. After midweek, temperatures slowly moderate under sunny skies.
