Greenville, SC – A Freeze Watch has been issued for late Friday night through Saturday morning across portions of northeast Georgia, western North Carolina, and Upstate South Carolina, as temperatures could drop as low as 29 degrees, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Greenville-Spartanburg.
The advisory covers a broad region including Asheville, Hendersonville, Franklin, Greenville, Spartanburg, and Clayton, as well as counties across the Blue Ridge Mountains and western Piedmont. The watch will be in effect from around 1 a.m. until 8 a.m. EDT Saturday.
The NWS cautions that frost and freeze conditions may damage or kill crops and sensitive vegetation, and could also impact unprotected outdoor plumbing. Homeowners are encouraged to cover plants, drain sprinkler systems, and insulate exposed pipes before temperatures fall overnight.
Forecasters note this could be one of the coldest nights of the season so far, with clear skies and calm winds enhancing the freeze potential across higher terrain and sheltered valleys.
