Clarksville, Arkansas – Dangerous heat will grip western Arkansas Thursday as heat index values soar to 107°, raising the risk for heat-related illness in Johnson and Logan counties. Local officials urge residents to take immediate action to avoid the worst of the summer heat.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a Heat Advisory is in effect from noon until 8 p.m. Thursday for Southern Johnson County, Johnson County Higher Elevations, and Southern and Eastern Logan County. Cities such as Clarksville, Paris, Booneville, and Hartman are expected to experience the most severe conditions, with the heat index pushing well above 105° in the afternoon.

Officials warn that high humidity combined with triple-digit temperatures could lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, especially for those without access to air conditioning. Outdoor workers and vulnerable populations should stay hydrated, seek shade, and limit strenuous activity to early morning or evening hours. If you must be outside, wear light clothing and check on neighbors—especially the elderly and those without reliable cooling.

Relief is unlikely before Thursday night, and more advisories may follow if this heat continues. Stay alert for updated warnings and plan to adjust your schedule as needed.
