Boston, Mass. – A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for much of Massachusetts until 8 p.m. Saturday, with residents urged to prepare for damaging winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning through the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, the watch covers Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Worcester, Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex counties. Forecasters warn storms may strengthen quickly, with wind gusts topping 60 mph and isolated hail possible.

Boston, Worcester, and Springfield are included in the threat zone, where strong downpours could trigger flash flooding in low-lying areas. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency advises avoiding unnecessary travel this evening, as sudden road ponding and tree damage could lead to closures.

Power outages are also possible if winds bring down branches and power lines. Residents are urged to charge devices, secure outdoor items, and move indoors before storms arrive.

The thunderstorm watch remains active until 8 p.m., though additional advisories could be issued if storms linger into the night.
