Westchester County, NY – Westchester County police officers were busy over the weekend as heavy snow and icy conditions caused widespread vehicle issues across area parkways, according to the department.

Between 5 a.m. Sunday and 4 p.m. Monday, officers responded to 88 disabled vehicles that had become stuck on entrance or exit ramps or slid off roadways. Police assisted drivers by pushing, winching, and helping them return safely to travel.

According to the Westchester County Police Department, officers also handled 16 motor vehicle accidents, none involving serious injuries. Officials noted that overall traffic volume was light, as many residents heeded warnings to remain home during the storm.

The department’s Communications Unit was equally busy, fielding 349 calls for service, including 69 emergencies requiring immediate attention.

Police expressed gratitude to both their officers and communications personnel who worked in hazardous conditions, as well as to essential workers and residents who stayed off the roads.

“This cooperation made it safer for those who had to travel,” the department said in a statement.
