Mount Kisco, NY – A stolen delivery truck packed with snack food was recovered Tuesday morning after police tracked it through Westchester County, leading to the arrest of a Mount Kisco man, according to authorities.
According to the Westchester County Police Department, the incident unfolded at 7:49 a.m. Tuesday, when the Real Time Crime Center issued an alert that a stolen box truck was traveling on North Bedford Road near Preston Way in Mount Kisco. The truck had been reported stolen from a supermarket in Stamford, Connecticut, about 30 minutes earlier.
Police say officers canvassed the area and soon spotted the truck traveling on Main Street near South Moger Avenue. A patrol unit followed the vehicle as it turned onto Maple Avenue, where it eventually pulled into the parking lot of the Mount Kisco Community Center.
The driver was taken into custody without a pursuit. Authorities say the truck was loaded with 147 cases of chips and two cases—48 containers—of salsa, valued at approximately $4,000. The vehicle was towed, and Stamford police and the vehicle’s owner were notified of the recovery.
While being held at the Mount Kisco Police precinct, the suspect allegedly became upset and began striking himself in the face, causing injury. Mount Kisco Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded and transported him to a local hospital, where he was treated and later returned to police custody for processing.
Police identified the suspect as Hugo Lopez-Ramos, 25, of Main Street in Mount Kisco. He was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd and 4th degrees, both felonies, as well as Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd degree, a misdemeanor.
Lopez-Ramos was arraigned Tuesday night in Mount Kisco Justice Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail, according to police.
