Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for northeastern West Virginia, where a wintry mix of snow, ice, and gusty winds is expected to affect travel overnight into Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, Eastern Preston County along with Eastern and Western Tucker counties are forecast to see total snow accumulations of up to two inches, combined with a light glaze of ice. Wind gusts may reach up to 35 mph during the advisory period, which runs from 10 p.m. Thursday to 11 a.m. Friday.
The advisory includes the communities of Saint George, Hazelton, Rowlesburg, Terra Alta, Parsons, Hendricks, Thomas, Davis, and Canaan Valley. Forecasters say precipitation will begin as a wintry mix overnight, with conditions deteriorating toward the early morning hours.
Roads, particularly bridges and overpasses, are expected to become slick and hazardous. The National Weather Service warns that the combination of snow, ice, and wind may significantly impact the Friday morning commute across higher elevations and rural roadways.
Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time for travel. Gusty winds could also reduce visibility at times, especially in open and elevated areas.
The National Weather Service is asking the public to report snow or ice accumulations to assist with forecasting and impact assessment. Reports can be submitted by calling 412-262-1988, posting to the NWS Pittsburgh Facebook page, or tagging @NWSPittsburgh on X.
Conditions will be monitored through Friday morning, and additional advisories or warnings may be issued if impacts increase.
