Charleston, WV – Residents across West Virginia are urged to prepare for snow and hazardous travel conditions as a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect at 1 p.m. today. The advisory will last until 1 p.m. Saturday, with the heaviest snowfall expected during the evening commute and overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will total 3 to 5 inches in some areas, particularly around Southeast Randolph and Northwest Pocahontas counties. Winds gusting up to 35 mph may worsen visibility, creating challenging conditions for drivers, especially along I-64 and other major routes.

Travelers should slow down, allow extra time for trips, and have emergency supplies ready in case of delays. Officials recommend calling 511 for up-to-date road conditions before heading out.

Temperatures will dip below freezing tonight, making untreated roads even more slippery. By Saturday, conditions should begin to improve as snow tapers off. The five-day forecast shows a cold weekend with highs in the mid-30s, but Sunday will bring clearer skies and a slight warm-up.

While the snow will primarily affect higher elevations, urban areas could still see accumulation and icy conditions. Residents are advised to check local forecasts and plan accordingly for the weekend.
