Charleston, WV – Winter weather is expected to bring snow accumulations and hazardous road conditions to West Virginia through Saturday afternoon. Residents in mountainous areas should prepare for heavier snowfall, while lowland regions may experience minor accumulations and icy conditions by tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a mix of rain and snow will develop this afternoon, with snow becoming more widespread after 5 p.m. Lowland areas are expected to see less than half an inch of snow by Saturday morning, but elevated surfaces like bridges and sidewalks may become slick as temperatures drop below freezing. The heaviest snowfall, ranging from 2 to 4 inches, is anticipated in higher elevations such as Pocahontas and Randolph counties.
Motorists should exercise caution on roadways, especially in areas along Interstate 64 and Route 219, where reduced visibility and icy patches are possible. The winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of West Virginia, including southeast Ohio and northeast Kentucky.
Looking ahead, the weekend will bring partly cloudy skies on Saturday afternoon, with highs near 34 degrees. Sunday will offer a sunny break, with temperatures climbing to 48 degrees by Monday before another round of showers arrives Tuesday.
