Charleston, WV – Winter weather will impact parts of West Virginia today as snow showers and frigid conditions linger. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for mountainous areas until 1 p.m., with light to moderate snowfall and slippery roads creating travel hazards.

According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations of up to 3 inches are expected in the higher elevations, while lower elevations will see flurries taper off by early afternoon. Drivers on routes like US-119 are urged to remain cautious, as untreated roads may develop slick spots.

Today’s high temperature will reach 34°F, with northwest winds gusting up to 14 mph, creating a wind chill near 21°F. Tonight will be mostly clear, with lows dropping to 18°F.

Looking ahead, Sunday will bring sunshine and calm winds, with highs around 33°F. Christmas week starts with a warming trend as temperatures climb to 48°F on Monday, though rain showers are expected Monday night into Tuesday. Christmas Day will be mild but cloudy, with a high of 52°F.

Residents are advised to allow extra time for travel today, especially in mountainous areas, and to monitor updated forecasts as weather conditions evolve.
