Charleston, WV – A Winter Storm Watch is in place for parts of northeast and eastern West Virginia starting Thursday morning through early Friday. Residents in higher elevations should prepare for six to ten inches of snow, with locally higher amounts in the mountains. Light snow accumulation of one to two inches is expected in the lowlands.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), hazardous travel conditions are likely Thursday afternoon as snow and blowing snow reduce visibility. Those traveling along routes such as U.S. 33 and Corridor H should plan for delays or consider rescheduling non-essential trips.

In addition to the storm, a Cold Weather Advisory will take effect Thursday evening for Pocahontas and Randolph counties. Wind chills as low as -15°F are anticipated, creating a risk of frostbite for those exposed to the elements for extended periods. Residents are advised to wear layers, limit outdoor activities, and keep pets indoors.

The storm will taper off by early Friday morning, with cold temperatures lingering into the weekend. Rain is expected to return Saturday night, transitioning back into snow Sunday. The extended forecast shows highs in the 20s to low 30s, with lows dipping into the single digits.
