Charleston, WV – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for central and southern West Virginia through 9 p.m. Monday, as heavy snow continues to create slick and hazardous travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.

Forecasters report that an additional inch of accumulation is possible this evening, bringing storm totals to between 6 and 9 inches across counties including Kanawha, Raleigh, Fayette, Boone, Clay, and Nicholas. The Monday evening commute is expected to remain difficult, with reduced visibility and snow-covered roads in many areas.

The National Weather Service urges drivers to slow down and use caution, keeping flashlights, food, and water in vehicles in case of emergencies. Road conditions can be checked by dialing 511 or visiting the West Virginia Department of Transportation’s online travel portal.

Snow is expected to taper off later tonight, but slick spots will linger into early Tuesday morning, especially on untreated or elevated roadways.
