Lewisburg, WV – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Western Greenbrier County as heavy snow and strong winds are expected to create dangerous travel conditions beginning Sunday night through early Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Snow is forecast to begin around 7 p.m. Sunday, intensifying overnight and continuing through Monday night, with total accumulations of 3 to 8 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph, leading to blowing and drifting snow and occasional whiteout conditions in higher elevations.
Forecasters warn that both the Monday morning and evening commutes could be significantly affected by snow-covered roads, reduced visibility, and icy conditions. The combination of heavy, wet snow and gusty winds may also bring down tree limbs, potentially causing isolated power outages.
Drivers are strongly urged to avoid unnecessary travel, keep an emergency kit in their vehicles, and monitor 511 for the latest road updates. Residents should also prepare for possible power disruptions and limit time outdoors during the storm.
Conditions are expected to improve gradually by Tuesday morning as snowfall tapers off.
