Charleston, WV – A major winter storm is bringing heavy snow, freezing rain, and ice to West Virginia through Wednesday morning, making travel dangerous. Commuters should expect treacherous road conditions, especially on I-64, where ice accumulation could lead to significant delays.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm is expected to bring 3 to 5 inches of snow, with ice buildup of up to a tenth of an inch. The heaviest precipitation will fall overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning. Rain will follow, adding to hazardous conditions.

Road crews are working to keep highways passable, but officials urge drivers to delay travel if possible. Those who must drive should carry an emergency kit, including a flashlight, food, and extra water.

Temperatures will hover near freezing Wednesday before dropping into the low 20s overnight. Conditions improve Thursday, with mostly cloudy skies and highs near 41°F. The next chance of precipitation arrives Friday night into Saturday, bringing rain and possible snow showers.
