Davis, West Virginia – Wind gusts reaching 55 mph could sweep through the higher elevations of eastern West Virginia overnight, creating dangerous travel conditions and the risk of falling trees before daybreak Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. tonight until 4 a.m. Friday for Eastern Preston and Eastern Tucker counties. Sustained west winds of 20 to 30 mph will combine with stronger gusts, especially across exposed ridges and mountain communities like Canaan Valley, Thomas, and Terra Alta.
Roads through higher terrain, including stretches near Route 32 and Route 219, could see sudden crosswinds capable of pushing vehicles, particularly trucks and SUVs. Loose outdoor objects may be blown around, while weakened tree limbs could snap and bring down isolated power lines.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items before winds increase and avoid overnight travel through mountainous areas if possible. Officials also encourage reporting downed trees or power lines as conditions develop.
Winds are expected to ease after 4 a.m. Friday, though additional advisories could be issued if conditions remain elevated into the morning hours.
