Pittsburgh, PA – Strong winds continue across the higher elevations of eastern West Virginia, with a Wind Advisory remaining in effect for Eastern Tucker County through 10 AM Monday. The National Weather Service warns that gusts up to 55 mph may cause downed limbs, scattered power outages, and difficult travel across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, sustained west winds of 20 to 30 mph will persist through the night, with the strongest gusts occurring in elevated areas around Davis, Canaan Valley, and Thomas. Exposed ridgelines in the Allegheny Highlands may experience even stronger bursts at times.
Forecasters say these winds may blow around unsecured outdoor items and create hazardous conditions on open and elevated roadways. Power crews may see isolated outages as the strongest gusts arrive overnight into early Monday morning.
Residents traveling through the Canaan Valley backcountry or along the high mountain corridors of WV-32 and nearby secondary roads should use caution, particularly during the early morning hours when visibility may also be reduced by patchy fog and blowing snow at the highest peaks.
Winds are expected to ease gradually after sunrise Monday as the pressure gradient weakens and calmer conditions spread eastward.
