Charleston, WV – Severe weather is expected to develop across West Virginia this afternoon and evening as a frontal boundary moves through the Ohio Valley. The National Weather Service has issued a warning for possible severe storms, which will begin around 2 PM today, continuing until 10 PM.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, VA, the main threats include damaging winds of 55 mph or higher, which could down trees and power lines, as well as up to 1-inch diameter hail. Though the risk of an isolated tornado is low, it cannot be ruled out, especially in areas west of I-81.

The timing of the storms will be from early afternoon through the post-sunset hours. The marginal risk extends down to the I-81 corridor and stretches south of I-64. A slight risk is in place for counties along and north of I-64.

Residents are urged to stay alert, monitor weather updates, and have a way to receive warnings through phone, TV, or NOAA weather radio.
