Charleston, WV – A quiet but steady warming trend is setting up across West Virginia, with temperatures climbing nearly 30 degrees in just a few days and reaching the 70s by Sunday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, calmer conditions will take hold starting Wednesday following recent active weather, with highs in the 40s across the lowlands and 30s in the mountains. A round of light rain is expected Thursday, briefly impacting roads and outdoor plans before drier air returns.
By Friday, temperatures will rise into the 60s across much of the state, including Charleston, Huntington, and Parkersburg, while mountain communities like Beckley and Elkins climb into the 40s and 50s. The warming trend accelerates into the weekend, with lowland highs reaching the upper 60s Saturday and near 70°F by Sunday.
Travel impacts will be minimal outside of Thursday’s light rain, though early morning fog or damp roads may develop. Snowmelt in higher elevations could also lead to minor runoff in mountain areas.
Residents can expect improving conditions heading into the weekend, with dry weather and springlike temperatures dominating. The warming trend is expected to continue into early next week, with no major cold snaps in sight.
