Davis, West Virginia – Residents in Eastern Tucker County have less than a few hours to secure loose items before 50 mph wind gusts begin slamming the high terrain by 1 a.m. Wednesday, raising the risk of downed trees and sudden power outages through early afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday for Eastern Tucker County, including Canaan Valley, Davis and Thomas. West winds will range from 15 to 25 mph, with peak gusts reaching 50 mph along exposed ridges and open roadways.
The strongest gusts are expected along Route 32 through Canaan Valley and elevated stretches near Dolly Sods, where crosswinds could shove high-profile vehicles and reduce visibility as snow blows across lanes. The combination of fresh snow cover and 50 mph gusts may briefly drop visibility below a half mile, especially before sunrise.
Loose outdoor furniture, trash bins and holiday decorations could become airborne. Tree limbs may snap, and isolated power outages are possible. Residents should charge devices tonight, avoid parking under large trees and use caution on elevated bridges and ridgelines during the Wednesday morning commute.
The advisory expires at 1 p.m. Wednesday, but additional updates are possible if wind speeds trend higher.
