Charleston, WV – Drivers in eastern West Virginia should watch for fog and light mountain showers this morning, with a more intense round of rain expected to arrive by Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, patchy valley fog and mountain frost will linger through mid-morning Sunday, followed by increasing clouds. A slight chance of showers will persist in higher elevations, while lowlands remain partly cloudy. Highs today will range from the mid-50s in Elkins to around 70°F near Huntington.
By tonight, skies will turn mostly cloudy and colder, especially in the mountains where scattered showers may redevelop. Lows will dip into the 40s in much of the state.
Conditions improve briefly Monday, with sunshine and highs near 75°F in Charleston and Logan. But a warm front pushing in from the south will bring rounds of rain—potentially heavy at times—beginning Tuesday and lasting through midweek. Areas along the Kentucky and Virginia borders could see localized flooding.
Residents should prepare for slippery roads during morning commutes, especially in fog-prone valleys, and monitor forecasts for possible flood watches on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service says the wet pattern is expected to persist into late week. More advisories may follow.
