Charleston, WV – The season’s first light snow is expected to fall across the West Virginia mountains tonight into early Friday, as a strong storm system moves northeast and pulls colder air into the region, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.

Forecasters say rain showers will transition to snow in the higher elevations of Pocahontas and Randolph counties, including Snowshoe and Elkins, where accumulations up to one inch are possible by Friday morning. Lighter snowflakes may mix in at lower elevations, but travel impacts will remain limited.

A Wind Advisory is also in effect for the same area, with gusts up to 50 mph likely overnight and into Friday afternoon. The combination of wind and light snow could briefly reduce visibility and create slick spots on mountain roads early Friday.

Snow showers are expected to taper off by midday Friday, with skies gradually clearing as the system exits the region. Cooler, breezy conditions will linger through the afternoon before calmer weather returns this weekend.
