Lewisburg, West Virginia – Roads and sidewalks across Greenbrier County could turn slick overnight as freezing rain develops late Monday night, raising concerns for the Tuesday morning commute in eastern West Virginia.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from midnight tonight through 7 a.m. Tuesday for both eastern and western portions of Greenbrier County. Periods of freezing rain are expected to produce a light glaze of ice on untreated roads, bridges, and elevated surfaces.

Communities including Lewisburg, White Sulphur Springs, Alderson, Quinwood, Rainelle, and surrounding rural areas may see patchy icing develop before sunrise. While ice amounts are expected to remain light, even a thin glaze can significantly reduce traction, especially on secondary roads and shaded areas.

The highest risk for hazardous travel will be during the early morning hours Tuesday, when temperatures remain near or below freezing. Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use extra caution on bridges and overpasses, which tend to ice over first.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve after daybreak as temperatures rise, though lingering slick spots could persist into the morning. No additional advisories are currently posted, but officials note that travel impacts remain possible until temperatures climb safely above freezing.
