Charleston, WV – A brief period of dry weather is expected to dominate the weekend in Charleston, West Virginia, before the return of showers and thunderstorms early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a cold front that exited the area today has paved the way for clearer skies and drier conditions. This spell of dry weather will last through Sunday, with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to low 90s. The mountains will experience highs in the mid-70s to mid-80s, while lowland areas will see temperatures rise to the mid-80s and low 90s.

Tonight, temperatures are expected to drop to the high 50s and 60s, with mostly clear skies and patchy fog. Sunday will continue the trend of sunny and dry conditions, with high temperatures remaining similar to Saturday.

However, this brief dry period will come to an end as clouds increase on Monday, bringing very hot conditions and a chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the mountainous regions. High temperatures on Monday will range from the mid-70s to mid-80s in the mountains and low to mid-90s in the lowlands. Monday night will see temperatures drop to the low 60s and low 70s, with mostly cloudy skies.

Looking ahead, a cold front is expected to pass through late Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing cooler temperatures and a higher chance of precipitation. Tuesday will see high temperatures around 92°F, followed by a cooler Wednesday with a high of 85°F and a 45% chance of rain. Showers are also expected to continue on Thursday and Friday, with highs in the mid-80s to upper 80s.
