Charleston, W.Va. – A refreshing change is on the way for West Virginia as Canadian high pressure ushers in the coolest stretch of weather since spring. After lingering showers wrap up Sunday evening, the Mountain State will settle into a dry and unseasonably cool pattern that lasts through next weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, daytime highs across the lowlands will hold in the 70s, with 60s common in higher elevations. Overnight lows will dip into the 40s and 50s, but the normally colder mountain valleys could see readings in the upper 30s by midweek, marking the first true fall-like chill of the season.

Morning river valley fog will be common Monday through Thursday before giving way to sunny afternoons. By Friday and Saturday, temperatures will climb slightly, with highs reaching the upper 70s to mid-80s in the valleys, though conditions will remain comfortable.

Travelers should be prepared for reduced visibility during the early mornings, especially along river routes and in mountain hollows. Residents in colder valleys may also want to protect sensitive plants as the week’s coolest nights approach.

This extended stretch of quiet, dry weather is expected to hold through next weekend, with no major storm systems on the horizon.
