Charleston, W.Va. – A cool, crisp stretch of fall weather is taking hold across West Virginia and the Ohio Valley, following scattered showers and an isolated rumble of thunder early tonight. The National Weather Service says the region will turn dry and breezy through midweek, with a widespread frost or even a light freeze expected by early Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service office in Charleston, lingering clouds will clear out Wednesday, allowing cooler air to settle in. Highs will remain in the upper 50s to low 60s across much of the region, with lows dipping into the 30s. Patchy frost may form as early as Thursday morning in rural valleys, with widespread frost and some subfreezing temperatures likely by Friday dawn—particularly in areas north and west of the Kanawha Valley.

Residents are encouraged to protect sensitive outdoor plants and disconnect hoses as the coldest air so far this fall arrives. Winds will remain light overnight but turn breezy each afternoon, adding to the chill. The pattern stays dry through the weekend with mostly sunny skies and gradually moderating temperatures.
