Charleston, W.Va. – Blistering summer heat is surging into West Virginia this Saturday, with temperatures in Charleston pushing 95°F and heat index values climbing even higher. The National Weather Service warns that prolonged exposure could lead to heat exhaustion—especially along I-64 and in low-shade urban areas.

According to the latest update from the NWS Charleston office, the region will remain mostly clear Saturday and Sunday, but things shift quickly by Monday. A 20 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms creeps into the forecast after 3 p.m. Monday, and the chance of storms increases to 30 percent Monday night and Tuesday.

Charleston residents should limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours this weekend and stay alert for changing weather conditions by Monday. Light south winds Saturday may offer limited relief, but heat will remain intense through Sunday evening. UV levels are expected to be very high—use sunscreen and take frequent breaks indoors if you’re celebrating the extended holiday.

On Monday, storm chances rise into the early evening. Tuesday continues the trend with a 30% chance of thunderstorms before 8 p.m., followed by more active weather likely on Wednesday and Thursday, where precipitation chances peak near 60%.
