Charleston, WV – West Virginia will see its coldest air of the season early next week as a powerful Arctic front moves through the region. According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, temperatures will plummet Monday night, November 10, into Tuesday morning, November 11, producing a hard freeze across the entire Mountain State.

Forecast lows are expected to bottom out near 20°F in Morgantown, 22°F in Charleston, and 18°F in Beckley, with colder readings in the Allegheny Highlands where wind chills could fall into the single digits. Even lower elevations along the Ohio River are expected to freeze, marking the most widespread cold of the fall so far.

The National Weather Service offices in Charleston and Pittsburgh have issued freeze warnings across nearly all West Virginia counties. Brisk northwest winds gusting 25–35 mph Monday night will funnel in Arctic air, making conditions feel even colder.

According to the Weather Prediction Center’s Day 3–7 Hazards Outlook, West Virginia lies within a broad “Frost/Freeze” corridor stretching from the Gulf Coast to New England — one of the largest early-November cold events in recent memory.

Tuesday will be sunny but unseasonably cold, with highs only reaching the 30s across the mountains and low-40s in the valleys. Forecasters say another subfreezing night is likely Tuesday into Wednesday before gradual warming returns later in the week.

Residents are urged to wrap pipes, bring pets indoors, and cover plants. Motorists should use caution Tuesday morning, as frost and ice may form on bridges and shaded mountain roads.
