Charleston has recorded 17.8 inches of snow this season, near normal levels.
According to the National Weather Service Eastern Region, Charleston, West Virginia measured 17.8 inches of snowfall as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, compared to a normal 16.3 inches through the same date.
Elsewhere in the state, Elkins has recorded 51.2 inches this season, running above its normal of 43.7 inches. Beckley has measured 27.6 inches, also slightly above its typical mid-February total.
The regional update shows higher elevations across central and eastern West Virginia continuing to trend above seasonal averages, while lower elevations remain closer to normal.
The National Weather Service noted measurable snowfall has been observed at each primary reporting site included in the Eastern U.S. summary — an uncommon seasonal milestone.
For commuters, students, and road crews across West Virginia, steady snowfall in mountain counties has meant periodic travel slowdowns and ongoing plowing operations this winter.
The snowfall year runs from July 1 through June 30.
