Charleston, WV – The National Weather Service Charleston says a cold front sweeping through West Virginia today will bring gusty showers followed by a noticeable drop in temperatures. Breezy conditions are expected through early afternoon before a round of additional showers develops later in the day, especially in northern and mountain areas.

According to the NWS, cooler and blustery weather will settle in Wednesday and Thursday, with highs dropping into the 50s and low 60s for much of the state. Winds will remain gusty midweek, giving the region a distinctly fall-like feel.

Forecasters warn that the growing season may end Thursday night, when a widespread frost or freeze is expected across much of the region. Low temperatures will dip into the 30s in the lowlands and mid-30s in the higher elevations, prompting gardeners and farmers to take precautions for sensitive vegetation.

While no significant rainfall is expected after tonight, scattered showers may linger north and along the mountains into Thursday morning before skies clear out for a dry, chilly weekend.
