Greenbrier County, WV – Residents in western parts of Greenbrier County should prepare for possible hazardous winter weather as a Winter Storm Watch has been issued ahead of the end of the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Virginia, the watch is in effect from Friday morning through Saturday morning, with the potential for heavy snowfall and strong wind gusts across the region.
Forecasters say 2 to 5 inches of snow could accumulate in Western Greenbrier County, including the communities of Rainelle, Duo, and Quinwood. In addition to snowfall, wind gusts up to 45 mph are possible, which could lead to reduced visibility and scattered tree damage.
The storm may significantly impact travel, particularly during the Friday evening commute, as roads could become slick and snow-covered. Gusty winds may also bring down tree branches, increasing the risk of localized power outages in more exposed areas.
Officials urge drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions. Residents should also secure outdoor items and ensure emergency supplies are stocked in case conditions worsen.
A Winter Storm Watch means conditions are favorable for significant winter weather, but exact snowfall amounts and impacts may change as the forecast becomes clearer. Additional alerts, including warnings or advisories, could be issued closer to the storm’s arrival.
The National Weather Service recommends monitoring updated forecasts over the next 24 to 48 hours as confidence increases.
