Charleston, WV – A marginal to slight risk of severe storms is expected across West Virginia today, with damaging winds and small hail possible into the evening. A line of storms will move in from the west early in the morning and progress eastward throughout the day.
According to the National Weather Service, the primary threat will be strong wind gusts, with speeds reaching 40 to 50 mph. Embedded tornado circulations within the storm line cannot be ruled out. An additional line of storms is forecast to develop along a cold front this evening, bringing more gusty winds and the possibility of small hail.
Outside of thunderstorms, windy conditions will persist across the region. The strongest non-thunderstorm wind gusts are expected in the higher elevations northwest of Charleston, where tightening gradients will support gusty surface winds.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects and prepare for potential power outages. Travelers should remain cautious, especially in areas prone to strong crosswinds.
This storm system comes as part of an active weather pattern affecting the state, with instability increasing due to recent precipitation. Stay updated with local weather alerts and take necessary precautions as conditions develop through the evening hours.
