Charleston, West Virginia – Quiet weather will hold across West Virginia through midweek, but rain and thunderstorms are set to return by Thursday afternoon, bringing travel impacts into early Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, dry conditions will continue through Wednesday with temperatures gradually warming. Lowland areas including Charleston, Huntington, and Parkersburg will climb into the upper 60s and low 70s by Thursday, while mountain communities remain slightly cooler.
A warm front will trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms beginning Thursday afternoon, with coverage increasing into Thursday night as a cold front moves through. Drivers along I-64, I-77, and US-119 should prepare for wet roads and reduced visibility, especially after 6 p.m. as rain becomes more widespread.
Storms are not expected to be widespread severe, but brief heavy downpours and gusty winds could create localized travel slowdowns. Rain may linger into early Friday before tapering off.
Cooler and drier air returns by Saturday, with highs dropping back into the 40s and 50s statewide. Residents should plan for changing conditions late Thursday and stay alert for updates as the system moves through.
