West Virginia Weather Alert: Spring Showers and Gusty Winds to Hit Charleston by Tuesday Evening

Charleston, WV — Strong winds and scattered showers are expected to sweep across Charleston and much of West Virginia on Tuesday, bringing springtime turbulence to travel and outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, wind gusts could reach 40 mph Tuesday afternoon into the evening. Rain chances rise to 50% during the day and increase to 60% Tuesday night. These conditions could cause travel delays along I-64 and impact elevated areas across Kanawha, Putnam, and surrounding counties.

Tuesday’s high will reach around 57°F, with wind speeds gradually shifting westward by evening. Localized power disruptions and minor debris are possible in areas with higher gusts. Motorists are urged to use caution, especially on open roadways and bridges.

Although conditions improve by midweek, the transition into spring remains active. Wednesday will see a 50% chance of showers before 4 p.m., with temperatures peaking at 54°F. By Thursday, clear skies and sunshine return, offering highs near 60°F.
