Charleston, West Virginia – Drivers across much of West Virginia and nearby southeast Ohio should prepare for slippery roads as snow spreads into the region late Wednesday and continues into Thursday morning. The heaviest travel impacts are expected Wednesday evening and again early Thursday, when untreated roads and bridges could become slick.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday for large portions of central, northern, southern, and southeastern West Virginia, as well as Washington County in southeast Ohio. Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected, with locally higher totals possible in the higher terrain of Nicholas, Webster, Pocahontas, and Raleigh counties.

Communities including Charleston, Huntington-area suburbs, Parkersburg, Clarksburg, Beckley, Summersville, Weston, and Fayetteville are likely to see snow-covered roads during the Wednesday evening commute. Routes such as I-79, I-77, US-50, and US-19 could become hazardous, especially overnight as temperatures remain cold.

Officials urge motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. Road conditions can be checked by calling 511 or visiting state travel websites. Snow is expected to taper Thursday morning, but lingering slick spots could persist, and additional advisories remain possible if snowfall totals increase.
