Charleston, West Virginia – West Virginians can expect a mostly dry and seasonably cool Memorial Day weekend, but an active stretch of wet weather is set to return starting Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, high pressure will keep skies mostly sunny Saturday with lowland highs in the upper 60s. Sunday brings increasing clouds and a slight chance for showers, mainly overnight. Monday remains partly sunny for most of the state, though some areas may see scattered rain by evening.

Rain chances rise significantly Tuesday, with widespread showers likely across the region. The mountains and lowlands alike could see temperatures in the 60s to low 70s as moisture builds through midweek. Storms are possible Tuesday night into Wednesday, with locally heavy rainfall not ruled out.

Travelers returning from Memorial Day events should plan for slower commutes, especially on I-64 and US-119. Residents are advised to check local road conditions and prepare for potential localized flooding in low-lying areas.

The NWS says the unsettled pattern may persist beyond Wednesday, with additional alerts possible if rainfall intensifies.
