Charleston, West Virginia – After a stretch of wintry weather, conditions are improving across West Virginia today, giving residents a break before rain returns within the next 24 hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, drier air is settling in Wednesday with mostly cloudy skies and highs ranging from the 30s in the mountains to the 40s across the lowlands. Roads and surfaces are expected to improve through the day as temperatures rise above freezing.
The next system arrives by Thursday afternoon, bringing scattered rain showers across much of the state. Highs will climb into the 50s in the lowlands, with 40s to low 50s in higher elevations. Morning conditions Thursday should remain relatively quiet before rain develops later in the day.
By Friday, a more noticeable warmup takes hold. Cities along I-64 and I-77, including Charleston, Huntington, and Beckley, are expected to reach into the 60s and low 70s, with scattered afternoon and evening storms possible, especially across the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Residents should plan for changing conditions late Thursday into Friday and remain weather-aware for potential storms. Warmer, more springlike conditions continue into Saturday, with additional updates possible as the next system approaches.
