Charleston, WV – A surge of severe weather is expected to impact much of West Virginia late Monday, with thunderstorms forecast to bring damaging winds, large hail and the potential for isolated tornadoes.

According to the US National Weather Service Charleston WV, a cold front moving through the region will trigger widespread showers and storms starting Monday afternoon and continuing into the evening. The greatest risk of severe impacts, including tornado activity, is forecast for northern areas of the state.

The NWS has issued a marginal to slight risk alert for much of central and northern West Virginia, urging residents to prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Monday will start warm and breezy, with high temperatures reaching the 70s in the lowlands before cooling sharply Tuesday as a second front moves in. Tuesday will remain cloudy and windy, with additional showers possible and temperatures falling into the 50s.

By Wednesday, calmer conditions are expected to return, but patchy frost is possible in mountain valleys early in the morning.

Residents are encouraged to monitor NOAA Weather Radio and local alerts for updates, secure outdoor items, and prepare for potential power outages. Travel may be hazardous during the storm’s peak Monday evening.
