Greenbrier County, WV – A cold front sweeping through the region Monday evening is expected to trigger strong to severe thunderstorms across southeast West Virginia and parts of west central Virginia, with Greenbrier County facing the highest risk for a potential tornado.

According to the US National Weather Service in Blacksburg, VA, the storm threat will begin Monday afternoon, April 14, 2025, and continue into the evening hours. A Level 2 out of 5 “Slight Risk” has been issued for the region, with meteorologists warning of damaging wind gusts, hail up to one inch in diameter, and the possibility of brief, isolated tornadoes—particularly in southeast West Virginia.

Greenbrier County residents should remain alert, as the area holds the greatest potential for a tornado to develop. Local emergency officials recommend residents have multiple methods of receiving weather alerts, including NOAA Weather Radios and mobile notifications.

Travel may be impacted by sudden downpours, low visibility, and debris from wind damage. Those in mobile homes or weaker structures are advised to identify nearby safe shelters in advance.

Storm conditions are expected to taper off late Monday night, returning to seasonal weather by Tuesday. This system marks one of the more active severe weather days for the region so far this spring.
