Charleston, WV – A quiet stretch of sunny and mild weather will give way to a colder, wetter weekend across West Virginia, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston.
Forecasters say temperatures will climb into the upper 60s and low 70s through midweek under mostly sunny skies. Thursday remains dry and pleasant before clouds increase Friday as a cold front approaches, bringing a 50–90% chance of light rain by nightfall.
Behind the front, temperatures will drop sharply. Highs will fall into the low 60s Saturday with lingering light rain and partial clearing. By Sunday, a much colder airmass moves in, with highs near 59° in the lowlands and only low 40s across the higher elevations. Lows are expected to dip to near freezing, especially in the northeast mountains.
The NWS says the temperature drop could produce a mix of rain and snow across the lowlands late Sunday, with scattered snow showers possible in the mountains through Sunday night. While no significant accumulation is expected, forecasters advise monitoring updates as the system develops.
