Blacksburg, VA – Light snow showers could impact parts of West Virginia and southwest Virginia through Wednesday morning, as a cooling trend settles over the region.
According to the US National Weather Service in Blacksburg, rain showers will develop Tuesday before transitioning into snow showers late Tuesday night into early Wednesday, particularly in the higher elevations of West Virginia and far southwest Virginia. While snow accumulations are expected to remain light, travel conditions could become slippery in mountainous areas.
Daytime temperatures will drop steadily, with highs ranging from the upper 40s to low 70s Tuesday before falling to overnight lows between 30 and 40 degrees. Wednesday highs are forecast between 40 and 65 degrees, with colder overnight lows in the mid-20s to mid-30s.
The National Weather Service also issued an enhanced fire weather alert for parts of the region that may receive little to no rainfall through mid-day Tuesday. Dry conditions combined with gusty winds may increase the risk of fire spread, particularly in areas that miss precipitation.
Residents are urged to monitor local forecasts, drive cautiously in elevated areas, and avoid open burning. Snow is expected to taper off by late Wednesday as temperatures begin a gradual rebound.
