Charleston, WV – A cold front sweeping through the region this morning is bringing light snow showers to northern and central West Virginia, as well as parts of southeast Ohio, according to the US National Weather Service in Charleston.

Forecasters say flurries may continue into midday Thursday before tapering off briefly. However, a second system arriving overnight will reintroduce a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing drizzle late tonight into Friday morning.

The greatest chances for light snow or mixed precipitation are expected across areas such as Clarksburg, Elkins, Parkersburg, and Marlinton, where early accumulations may dust roads and grassy surfaces. Friday’s precipitation could make for slick travel, especially on bridges, overpasses, and rural roads.

Temperatures will hover in the upper 20s to mid-30s through Friday, keeping conditions marginal for melting during the day. Any lingering moisture could refreeze overnight, creating patchy black ice into early Saturday.

While total snowfall should remain under an inch, forecasters caution that intermittent wintry conditions could continue through Friday afternoon, particularly in higher elevations. Drivers are advised to reduce speed, allow extra distance, and check for local advisories before heading out.
