Charleston, West Virginia – West Virginia will slide into full summer mode beginning Sunday as sunny skies, 80s heat, and wildfire smoke converge through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service, Charleston will see mostly sunny skies Sunday with a high of 72°F. By Monday, temperatures jump to 78°F before peaking near 87°F Tuesday, with clear, dry air dominating the region. Smoke from Canadian wildfires will continue to linger through at least Tuesday afternoon, impacting visibility and air quality across Kanawha County and beyond.

Local residents should avoid strenuous outdoor activity during afternoon hours, especially vulnerable groups like children, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions. The Air Quality Index is expected to remain moderate but may spike with increased sun and stagnant conditions.

Sunday through Wednesday will bring a string of sunny days and clear nights. Tuesday night stays warm with a low of 62°F. By Wednesday, another near-record June high of 91°F is expected, prompting health officials to remind residents to stay hydrated and limit heat exposure.

Looking ahead to Thursday, June 6, a slight chance of rain returns with partly sunny skies and a continued summer heat pattern near 88°F. Friday brings a stronger chance of showers at 70%, offering slight relief but also travel delays.

Warnings remain in effect for wildfire smoke visibility issues and heat-related fatigue through midweek. Expect the next weather update Monday morning.
