Charleston, WV – Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms could hit parts of West Virginia this afternoon, with cold air aloft raising the risk of small hail, especially in the mountains.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, storms are more likely near higher elevations today, where brief downpours and hail may accompany thunder. Highs will range from the upper 60s to low 70s in the lowlands, and hover around 50s to low 60s in mountain areas.
Heading into the weekend, the weather shifts. Sunday brings mostly sunny skies and dry conditions, offering a break from the recent unsettled pattern. Monday will follow with even warmer and sunnier weather, with highs reaching the mid to upper 70s in many valley locations.
If you’re planning outdoor events or travel today, stay alert for quickly changing skies — especially in counties along the Allegheny Plateau. Those in rural areas should secure lightweight outdoor items in case of gusty winds from passing storms.
More sunshine and a warming trend are expected to build through midweek. Updates will follow if stronger storms redevelop this evening.
