Charleston, WV – A widespread soaking rain will continue through Thursday, Oct. 30, bringing much-needed moisture—but also a risk of localized flooding, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.
Forecasters say steady rain will fall tonight, becoming heavy at times overnight and early Thursday morning. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected across much of central and southern West Virginia, as well as eastern Kentucky and southeast Ohio.
The heaviest amounts are likely from Charleston south toward Beckley and Bluefield, with lighter totals expected across the northeastern mountains. While the rain will be largely beneficial for drought-stricken areas, the NWS cautions that nuisance flooding could occur where poor drainage or saturated ground is present.
Rain is forecast to taper off from west to east Thursday afternoon, with lingering showers possible into the evening.
Motorists should watch for ponding on roads and reduced visibility during heavy downpours.
